Location: Ormskirk, West Lancashire L40 5UF.

Salary: £24,000 to £32,000 per annum, dependant on experience.

THE ROLE

The position is within the Thin Film Technology Resource Group, part of the global R&D function. This group is responsible for developing new coated products and processes to support the NSG Group’s goal of expanding its value-added business and providing technical support to commercial and manufacturing teams.

The successful candidate will join a team investigating new coatings applied through sputter coating deposition. They will work on various projects, ranging from short-term incremental developments to longer-term, broader research initiatives.

Key responsibilities:

Responsibilities will focus on the operation and maintenance of laboratory coating and ancillary equipment, depositing thin films on glass and preparation of substrates. Additional activities would include conducting durability tests and measuring coated glass properties such as optical characteristics, electrical properties, and film thickness as required.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

You and your Skills

• A BTEC or HNC qualification in a science or engineering subject and experience in the maintenance and operation of complex equipment would be a distinct advantage.
• Minimum grade 4 or equivalent in Maths, English and Science at GCSE.
• An innovative, self-motivated team player with a genuine interest in science and technology.
• Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload.
• Enjoys active involvement in development/problem solving activities both in a lab and in production facilities.
• Prior knowledge and/or experience of high-vacuum systems and processes would be an advantage although full training will be provided.
• Experience of using Microsoft Applications.
